Kenyans Run

Kenyans run to catch their matatu for work.  Kenyans run to stay dry during the rainy season.  Kenyans run to cross the street and dodge the traffic.  Kenyans run to show you their menu so that you may pick their food at the food court.  Kenyans run to your open car window to sell you curios and magazines during traffic jams.  Some Kenyans run to win marathons, but they all reside in one small, clean, high up place in Kenya.

Kenyans bike to carry passengers from place to place.  Kenyans bike to recycle empty Coca Cola and Fanta bottles.  Kenyans bike to deliver crates stacked tall of fresh eggs to the local kiosk.  Kenyans bike to get to work.   Kenyans bike to generate functionality or power for other tasks.  Kenya has a cycling team, and is striving to compete in the next Olympics.

I don’t see Kenyans swim very often.  The swimming pools seem restricted to those who can afford the expensive sports club membership, and those who need to cool off during the hot Kenyan summers.

Perhaps my dream to form a national Kenyan triathlon team needs to mature a bit.
